Get in the game with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, founded in 2001 by baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr, 12-year Major League Baseball veteran Bill Ripken, and members of the Ripken family. The Foundation honors the legend and spirit of Cal Ripken, Sr. who succumbed to lung cancer in 1999. During his 37 year career with the Baltimore Orioles organization, Cal, Sr. was a pioneer for his way of teaching the basics of the game as well as the basics of life to both big leaguers and their youth league counterparts. The traits and lessons passed on by Cal, Sr. – leadership, work ethic, responsibility, and healthy living are brought to life for youth using the power of the game.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation is reaching out to youth across the country with a particular emphasis on America’s most distressed and underserved areas. Through partnerships with youth-serving organizations and schools, the Foundation brings vital life lessons to America’s most impressionable population.
Here is what one of our summer camp chaperones had to say:
“You presented us one of the most phenomenal opportunities that we will ever experience. Throughout the course of that week [at camp], I noticed the growth of these boys, not only in terms of baseball, but in terms of maturity, team work, discipline, and the ability to survive away from home …. We are all aware of Mike’s problems when it comes to his temper and behavior…this experience was a stepping stone for him. Mike behaved exceptionally… and impressed all the counselors with his manners. An opportunity of this caliber is priceless. Our children learned some of the most interesting life lessons that they will ever be presented.” - M. Patel, Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee, Massachusetts
